Funeral Support
Leeds Swahili Cultural Community Funeral Support Scheme is a contributory scheme initiated by LSCC. The scheme was established in 2008 by LSCC’s members after facing difficulties in paying off funeral costs.
The average cost of a funeral in the UK is estimated to be around £3,000.00, which may come as shock to some people at the time when it is required to bury our loved ones. Death is a subject that most people do not like to think about but we as Muslims should be aware of and ensure we are prepared for. Most of time, the funeral can leave families suffering from severe unexpected financial hardship and a lack of information as to the correct procedures that need to be followed to ensure that burial is carried out in a suitable manners at a time when those involved are already suffering from emotional distress.
The main objectives of this scheme is to provide all the necessary help required in arranging and making sure that the deceased body will be taken care according to the correct Islamic principles and also supporting remaining family members and relatives.
Abu Hurrayrah (Radhiya Allahu ‘Anhu) narrated I heard the Prophet of Allah (Swalla’Allahu alayhi wasallam) saying “The rights of the Muslim on the Muslims are to follow the funeral processions, to accept invitation and to reply the sneeze”
