About Us
Introduction
Leeds Swahili Cultural Community (LSCC) was established in 2004 as a cultural forum for the Swahili speaking migrant community in and around Leeds. One of LSCC’s original goals was to help prepare the children from the Swahili migrant families for a multi-cultural life in the United Kingdom by providing them with relevant socio-cultural training. But now Leeds Swahili Cultural Community has grown and extended its services to other communities around Leeds, where regular Religious and Mainstream Educations is catered for .
Ten years on, LSCC remains fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all migrant children and young people in Leeds area. Over the last ten years LSCC has built a network of volunteers which have tirelessly worked to develop an ethos which embraces difference and diversity with a focus towards educational achievement.
Through its educational wing (Leeds Swahili Cultural Community Learning Centre (LSCCLC). LSCC caters for the educational and cultural needs of children and young teenagers mainly from ethnic migrant communities in the areas of Leeds and beyond. It provides educational support activities, RE and cultural training for these children. The main goals are to assist them realize their full educational potential and promote cultural heritage and integration. Typical activities include lessons in Religious Education, Mathematics, English, Science and other cultural activities.

Our mission as Community supports and actively involves the grassroots communities in sustainable community development for our secure future through education. Always “Promoting Education for the benefit of all – today and tomorrow”
Objectives
- Providing classes for students between the ages of 5 -18 teaching Religious Studies and general Maths, Science, and English.
- Building up key skills such as team work and good communication
- Promoting cultural integration between peers and their families
- Preparing students on how to live and survive in a multicultural society.
- Setting up group activities and outdoor trips for our children.
